2017 has been a devastating year. Hurricane Irma hit Florida(69 dead) according to CBSN. Hurricane Harvey in Texas(45 dead) according to CNN. Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico(9 dead and still rising) according to TIME. Mexico has been hit by a 7.1 earthquake. Mother Nature does exist. In order to help those in need, we need to support them with whatever we can. We've all worked so hard to be somebody; now imagine losing everything you love in just a blink of an eye. People are losing their homes and cars, and that’s the least of their worries. Family is the most important. Watching these devastating videos has made me want to hold onto everything and never let go.
Mexico City was hit by the strongest earthquake in decades… on the anniversary of the earthquake that destroyed the city in 1985. Just when Mexico thought it had recovered, another one hit just hours after citizens practiced their earthquake safety drills. Many families have nowhere to go, so who’s going to take them in? Meanwhile our president wants to build a wall to divide us.
Although it’s great to donate to relief efforts, a large percentage of that money goes to supporting the organization rather than the actual families. Many of them were forced to stay and ride out the hurricane because they had nowhere else to go. They lost their only home. Hundreds of people have died and even more are hurt. No matter how much we prepare, nothing could’ve stopped these events.
Earth has probably had it with everyone and thinks maybe we don’t deserve the world we live in. We take advantage of it. Look at our oceans: they’re filled with trash, and animals are getting caught in plastic, many on the way to extinction.
A natural disaster can strike at any moment. Let’s not take our families and our planet for granted.
